48V/24V to 12V DC-DC Converter: Ultra-Compact 1A Supply
Power 12V loads from a 24V or 48V DC bus with the DCC4812, the 8.8 mm wide DIN-rail buck converter that fits where others don’t.
- 8.8 mm DIN rail width
- Wide 16–48 V input range
- Reverse-polarity & short-circuit proof
Why engineers choose the DCC4812
8.8 mm width: fit more power into less rail
The DCC4812 consumes only 8.8 mm on a standard DIN rail. Pack additional monitoring, signalling, or isolation modules into the same cabinet — no need for larger enclosures.
Wide 16–48 V input: work with any DC bus
Whether your plant runs on 24 V or 48 V, the DCC4812 accepts it. It starts from just 4 V above the 12 V output, so even a weak battery keeps your 12 V devices alive.
Built to survive wiring faults
Accidentally reverse the input polarity? No damage. Short the output? The DCC4812 limits current and resumes when the fault clears. An open circuit won’t cause failure.
Efficiency up to 96%: cool, reliable, cost-effective
At 24 V input you reach 96% efficiency; at 48 V it stays above 91%. Less waste heat means no fan, no maintenance, and lower energy bills over years.
Power Good LED: cut troubleshooting time
A green light on the front signals when the 12 V output is in regulation. At a glance you know the converter is healthy — no meter needed.
Wide temperature range: deploy anywhere
Rated from -40 °C to +50 °C (derate above 30 °C at full load). Use it in unheated outdoor cabinets, on the factory floor, or in server rooms.
How the DCC4812 reduces your panel‑building risk
| Criterion | Conventional DC‑DC converter | DCC4812 |
|---|---|---|
| Cabinet width | 17.5 mm or wider | 8.8 mm — half the rail space |
| Input voltage range | Fixed input, narrow tolerance | Uout+4 V to 48 V (works with 24 V & 48 V buses) |
| Input reverse‑polarity | Often unprotected | Protected to −48 V DC |
| Efficiency (medium load) | 80–88 % typical | 96 % at 24 V in, >91 % at 48 V in |
| Ambient temperature range | 0–40 °C typical | −40 °C to +50 °C (derated) |

FAQ
What is the valid input voltage range, and does it change with load?
Yes — the minimum input depends on load. At full load (1 A) the input must be at least Uout + 4 V; at no load Uout + 2 V is sufficient. Maximum Uin is 48 V (absolute max 53 V). So a DCC4812 needs ≥16 V at 1 A; a 24 V bus can drive it.
What output voltages are available across the family, and how accurate are they?
Three fixed variants: DCC4805 outputs 5 V (4.8–5.6 V), DCC4812 outputs 12 V (11.8–12.6 V), DCC4824 outputs 24 V (23.7–24.8 V). Output tolerance is ±2 % dynamic typical, with solid stability across 0–1 A.
What protection mechanisms are built in?
Four protections: reverse‑polarity input to −48 V DC, indefinite short‑circuit, open‑circuit safe operation, and an input TVS diode clamping input transients. No separate output OVP or thermal shutdown; above 30 °C at full load, add airflow or derate to ≤0.3 A.
How is output current capability derated at higher ambient temperatures?
At full load (1 A) the operating range is −40 °C to +30 °C. Reducing the load to 0.3 A or below extends the range to −40 °C to +50 °C. Thermal management above 30 °C at full load is the user’s responsibility.
What is the efficiency, and how does input voltage affect it?
Peak efficiency exceeds 90 % above 300 mA on the 12 V and 24 V variants. DCC4812 reaches ~96 % at Uin = 15 V, ~91 % at Uin = 48 V. Lower input‑to‑output ratios are more efficient. Run above 200 mA for best results.
What is the mechanical form factor, and does it fit standard DIN rail enclosures?
Yes — DIN‑rail mount, fuse‑box style, only 8.8 mm cabinet width. The mounting is standard top‑hat (35 mm). A green Power‑Good LED on the front lights when output is in regulation.
