8.8 mm wide — fit more channels in less rail

At just 8.8 mm, it’s among the slimmest constant-current drivers available, letting you pack more LED channels into every control cabinet. The LED48-500 frees DIN-rail space for additional breakers, I/O, or another driver without compromising on current stability or protection.

Zero electrolytic capacitors — designed for decades

Electrolytic capacitor dry-out is the number-one cause of LED driver failure. Remove them, and you remove the failure.

The LED48-500 uses only non-electrolytic storage elements. No component to age, bulge, or leak. It thrives in sealed, high-temperature luminaires where maintenance is impossible — delivering consistent current year after year.

Stable 500 mA from 5 V to 48 V

Consistent LED brightness regardless of bus voltage. The LED48-500 holds its 500 mA setpoint within ±10% across the full input range. Low-ripple output keeps high-power LEDs running flicker-free, without any external sense resistor or control loop.

  • Fixed 500 mA — no external resistor needed
  • Works from 5 V to 48 V DC
  • Low output ripple for clean light

Industrial-grade protection against real-world faults

Tolerates reverse polarity, short circuits, and open outputs without damage. The LED48-500 is built for control cabinets where wiring mistakes and voltage transients happen.

  • Reverse polarity protection up to –48 V DC
  • Indefinite short-circuit safe output
  • Open-circuit safe — no damage with LEDs disconnected
  • TVS diodes clamp input and output transients

Frequently asked questions

Is the LED48-500 a constant-current or constant-voltage driver, and what current does it deliver?

Constant current only — it is not a voltage-regulated supply. The LED48-500 variant is rated 500 mA (typ 500 mA, range 450–530 mA). Output voltage floats up to U_in − 2 V; the device is not usable as a general-purpose DC/DC converter.

What input voltage range is supported?

5 V to 48 V DC. The 5 V minimum is unusually low for a 48 V-class driver, making the LED48-500 usable on 12 V and 24 V bus systems as well as 48 V. The maximum LED string voltage is U_in − 2 V — so at 5 V input the string can be at most ~3 V (a single high-power LED).

How stable is the output current across the full LED string voltage range?

Stable to within ~10 % across the full string-voltage range. For most luminaire designs this is acceptable; applications needing tighter accuracy should compensate in the thermal and photometric calculations. See the datasheet for detailed current vs. output voltage curves.

What is the efficiency, and how does LED string voltage affect it?

Efficiency rises strongly with string voltage. At U_in = 48 V the LED48-500 reaches ~70 % at low string voltages and up to ~97 % at high string voltages. Long high-voltage strings extract nearly all input power as light; single-LED or low-voltage strings waste a significant fraction as converter heat.

What protection mechanisms are provided, and can the output be left open or shorted?

Yes to both. Reverse polarity protection up to -48 V DC at the input, indefinite short-circuit protection at the output, indefinite open-circuit safe operation. Both input and output TVS diodes clamp transients — the output TVS notably protects against inductive spikes when the LED string is hot-disconnected.

What is the thermal operating range, and are electrolytic capacitors used?

-40 °C to +50 °C with no derating curve stated, and no electrolytic capacitors anywhere in the design. Removing electrolytics eliminates the primary ageing mechanism in switching converters, supporting long service life in sealed or hot luminaire enclosures. The 15 µF input capacitance is implemented with non-electrolytic types.
