Sustainability in Switching Power Supplies
Sustainability is among the most frequently communicated values in industry - and at the same time one of the most easily abused. With switching power supplies there is regularly a gap between what glossy brochures promise and what actually happens over a device's life cycle: conflict raw materials, lead exemptions hiding inside supposedly RoHS-compliant parts, and end-of-life electronics openly burned at landfills outside Europe.
This talk, originally given at the Schaltnetzteiltag conference in Würzburg (the Power of Electronics event hosted by German B2B publisher Vogel), deliberately does not take a fair-weather angle on the topic. The central question is simple: what is actually left of sustainability once you start asking concrete questions? Walking through the DPS sustainability pyramid - Refuse, Retain, Reuse, Recycle, React - Dr. Michael Heidinger, founder and CEO of DPS, gives concrete recommendations on hazardous substances, component choice, maintenance and reuse.
At the end of the video you will find a compact checklist of questions you can take directly to your suppliers for a sustainability audit.
The talk is held in German.
